Total ban of mercury in Sweden
TOTAL BAN OF MERCURY IN SWEDEN
As of June 1, 2009, all utilization of mercury in Sweden will be banned. This means that mercury and products having a mercury component will not be accepted on the Swedish market. In practical terms the ban will force alternative techniques to be used in dental care, in chemical analysis and in chemical industry. In some agglutination products for microbiology diagnostics there are extraction solutions that contain a mercury derivative, called Thiomersal, which are used to enhance the optical view of reactions. For Bactus it is important to stress that to achieve agglutination with Phadebact products, it is not necessary to use an extraction solution nor does the extraction solution packed with the products contain Thiomersal (see www.thiomersal.com) or any other mercury component.
